Choosing The Right Vape Pen For You — an In-Depth Guide

Vape pen for smoking

There are dozens — if not hundreds — of vape pens out there

Nowadays vape pens aren’t limited to a single model type. As a matter of fact, there are a whole bunch of cool options that many struggle to choose from.

The world as we know it is changing. Just a few years ago society had deemed marijuana to be off-limits and completely legal, but as we collectively learn more about the substance, that unjust ruling begins to unravel. Countries are beginning to legalize marijuana countrywide, and those who don’t have states that are.

Because vaping is a great way to consume said marijuana, vaping is rising in popularity faster than ever. Studies have come out showing that regulated vaping and marijuana use puts you in little to no danger from negative side effects, and provides a large assortment of benefits.

Medical communities around the globe are actually on the frontlines of advocacy for the substance as they too have recognized and embraced the benefits of a substance that had previously been deemed dangerous. With all of this in mind, you may be looking for a vape pen. Considering vape pens come in a variety of (for a lack of a better term) trim levels, you may want more information on which vape pen will fit you best.

One of the most important (if not the most important) factors that come into play is how long your vape pen will last. This property is typically a product of a variety of factors that determine which vape pen is right for you. Keeping that in mind, let’s jump right into the good stuff.

So what determines the lifespan of a disposable vape pen?

The lifespan of a disposable vape pen is based around a few factors. They are as follows: Battery Size, Vape Pen Quality, Draw (or Puff) Time, and Cart Size. Depending on how these factors are combined and separated, the lifetime will definitely change.

Vape Pen Cart Size

The size of your vape cart is a big factor here. The bigger it is the more puffs you get! On average, a vape cart that’s half a gram in size will most likely get you anywhere from 50 to 150 puffs. A full gram would get you anywhere from 150 to 300 puffs.

Draw or Puff Time in Seconds

Another important factor to keep in mind for disposable vape pens is its draw or puff time in seconds. Basically the longer you draw from the vape pen, the shorter the lifespan of the vape becomes. Half a gram may get you anywhere from 50 to 150 puffs, but if you take long drags consistently, you may be looking at a number below the mentioned range (although dropping below 50 is somewhat unlikely).

Battery Size

A variety of disposable vape pens come standard with batteries that aren’t necessarily the largest. After all, it should be considered common sense when you say a larger battery means a longer lifetime. Most batteries like these are rechargeable regardless of how long you leave it. Some people report misplacing their pen and charging it up months later with no problems whatsoever.

Quality of the Battery

Batteries are interesting because quantity does not always mean quality. If you want a longer life make sure you get a higher grade battery. Not only will you benefit from longer lifetimes, but you’ll notice the pen takes much less time to charge.

250mg vs 500mg Vape Cartridges

Vape cartridges are a super simple thing to wrap your head around when it comes to lifespan. The larger the cartridge is the more puffs you’ll get out of it. Typically 250 mg will get you around 100 puffs, and 500 mg will get you around 200 to 250. Do keep in mind that these numbers may change when you factor in what was discussed above.

Vape Pens Versus E-Cigarettes

Choosing between Vape Pens and E-Cigarettes is a bit like choosing between Apples and Oranges. They’re not the same, nor are they just different versions of each other. Instead, they serve different crowds in different ways. Basically in the same way that an orange only satisfies a craving for citrus whereas an apple would satisfy a craving for apple! Typically E-Cigarettes are the go-to choice for those who are trying to quit smoking. The familiarity they provide and the incredibly smooth transition from actual cigarettes is why they’re a favorite among many. Unfortunately, most recreational users won’t like the e-cigarette, for it’s not as customizable as a vape pen, nor is it as feature friendly.

Vape Pens, on the other hand, are a favorite among recreational cannabis users because they incredibly feature friendly. They come in a variety of shapes in sizes, can be used for a lot of purposes outside marijuana, and the customization and feature enhancement levels are insane. Vape pens include things like temperature control, recyclable and/or refillable cartridges, batteries that last for a crazy amount of time, and more. Typically those trying to quit smoking won’t prefer the vape pen because it feels less like a cigarette than the e-cig. It’s simply something on a different level. However, some users have reported that vape pens have helped them get over the hill that is cigarette and nicotine addiction. Our advice would be to try both, and see which one suits you better!

Reusable Vape Pens Versus Disposable Vape Pens

Disposable Vape Pens

Disposable Vape Pens certainly have their advantages. Typically they’re used for temporary medicinal purposes and are for those not looking to invest in a permanent pen. They’re also fantastic for those simply trying to figure out whether or not they want to vape! These are great for beginners because they’re relatively cheap, they come pre-filled, and are super easy to use. Unfortunately, they won’t last nearly as long as reusable vape pens as they have lower grade batteries (because of their disposable nature of course). You also won’t find any of the super awesome customization options or features that reusable pens embrace. Because this option isn’t reusable, you won’t have to worry about charging it. A large con for these pens is that they’ll cost you a lot of money if you use them over time rather than just buying a reusable pen. Another con is that you won’t be able to mix strains, and the choices for flavor and strain use are quite limited.

Reusable Vape Pens

Reusable Vape Pens are used by those who love the action of vaping. They’re more expensive than a disposable pen, but they’ll save you money in the long run. Typically recreational users will only use disposable pens when they’ve forgotten their usual pen or are wanting to vape somewhere they may lose their trusty reusable pen. Beyond that, there really isn’t any reason to use a disposable pen if you’re an avid vape user. You may think that you’d need one for temporary medical things, but reusable pens can be refilled and changed up as much as you want. Need a strain of marijuana to help you sleep at night, simply switch the cartridge and you’re good to go!

Another huge reason to use reusable vape pens is their endless customization and feature enhancement. Since this is going to be your personal pen, and you’ll probably have it for quite a while, you want it to be unique. You can choose their style, theme, color, and so much more. Nowadays there are even accessories for vape pens. Beyond the customization is the incredible amount of available features. All sorts of cooling tactics, filtering tactics, and more. All things you can’t (or probably won’t) get on a disposable vape pen (if you did it would be one hell of an expensive disposable pen).

Unfortunately, there are a few downsides to reusable vape pens. First of all, they need to be recharged. Thankfully you can select what type of battery you want, meaning for a little extra money you’ll have to recharge less often, but a lot of people do find charging their vape pen an annoyance. Another unfortunate side effect is that they can get pretty expensive. Fortunately, the price is often worth it, and you’ll actually save yourself should you use it a lot. You don’t want to constantly be buying disposable pens when you could be recharging one for free!

If you can’t decide whether or not a reusable or disposable vape pen would be best for you, we recommend monitoring just how much you would use it. Start off with a disposable (that way you aren’t committed) and track just how much you use it throughout the day. If you use it a lot and you’re lessening the life of the pen drastically through excessive use, you may want to consider buying a reusable pen.

How long does it take to recharge a Vape Pen battery?

The size of your battery will often change this answer, but if you’re looking for an average, you’d find that most batteries take about three hours to fully charge. Most manufacturers state that the average vape battery should last for two days. However, this doesn’t entail constant use throughout those two days. To put this into perspective, if you were to take puffs continuously and without breaks, your battery would only last about two hours. Spread these puffs out between two days and you have longer battery life! It really depends on just how much you use your vape.

Temperature Control

If a long-lasting battery is what you want, you may want to step away take a look from outside of the battery. A feature that will increase your battery’s lifetime is temperature control. Through dynamic regulation of all the complex intricacies, you will effectively save battery.

Durability

If you’re planning on buying a reusable vape pen, we highly recommend you buy one that’s durable. Since you’ll most likely carry your vape on you at all times (like a cellphone), you may end up throwing it around more than you’d like. If the body of the vape isn’t strong and durable, you may damage your precious device!
